Soaking up heaven's rain

For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God" (Hebrews 6:7).

A meditation:

For ground that drinks the rain…

I want to be this kind of ground, this kind of fertile soil.  Open hands, open heart… open to the Holy Spirit’s voice.  Responsive, obedient, soft hearted, hopeful, faithful, refreshed, rested, ready.

… that often falls on it…

The heavens are open and pouring down food, drink, nourishment!  The Lord is always speaking, always pouring out blessing, always moving, always getting ‘er done.  It’s not just a trickle, it’s a downpour, a warm spring shower.  It’s not just for the person beside me, it’s not just for me, it’s wide open for everyone.

… and brings forth vegetation…

That’s the fruit.  That’s the promise of drinking in the rain.  That’s the responsibility of the Word… bringing results.

…useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled…

This is why we’re tilled – this is why we’re sanctified, disciplined, maturing, pressed, worked through, moulded.  To be useful to Him.  We’re purposed.  Our lives poured out as offerings to the Lord and to others.  There’s a destiny, a usefulness – there’s a connection with others, divine appointments, ordained meetings, serving, joinings, friendships, words to encourage, actions to change lives.

… receives a blessing from God.
