When I make cookies or muffins, I think of Beth Erlenbach, explaining how she and Terence look after others. She says it's like when you're mixing up the wet and dry ingredients, stirring it all together, and you get some dry, floury bits that stick to the side of the bowl. But then you bring your spoon around and scrape it all off and mix it right into the middle of the batter. That's what it's like with people - bring those that are in the margins right into the middle of the community, right into the center of what God's doing. That's a shepherding heart.
